Josephine Vineyard, FarmTogether’s third wine grape deal, is located in Josephine County, Oregon. Josephine County is home to the Applegate Valley AVA, a sub-appellation of the broader Rogue Valley AVA, which is known for vineyards planted on stream terraces, providing well-drained soils that are ideal for high-quality wine grapes. The property is located 25 miles southwest Grants Pass, Oregon.

Consisting of 75 planted acres of mature vines, all of which were planted in 2015 to Pinot Noir, Josephine Vineyard features the region’s most popular variety among growers and the most widely grown grape in Oregon. The Applegate River, which runs through the Applegate Valley AVA, has developed deep, alluvial soils to produce wines that are generally red-fruit forward with balanced acidity and underlying minerality that is desired of the varietal. The vines are well-suited for crop ripening, benefiting from this region’s warm days and cool nights. The terroir at Josephine Vineyard is highly conducive to growing premium Pinot Noir.
